ABOUT VICTORIA
Yale Grad, Former UCSB English/Writing Teacher, Theater/Cabaret Critic
Physics and calculus are hard. No one is born understanding derivatives or quantum theory. These topics aren't intuitive. And neither is writing.
My background is literature and criticism. I taught English literature and Writing 2 (freshman comp) at UCSB for three years. In 2015, I turned my critical energies to theater and cabaret. In the early 1990s, I was a volunteer AIDS counselor at the Los Angeles Shanti Foundation. Before the pandemic, I was a Volunteer Ambassador and Friendly Visitor at DOROT, an organization on Manhattan's Upper West Side whose mission is to decrease social isolation among older adults. My volunteer commitments amount to unpaid social work, so I can help reduce the anxiety associated with college and graduate school applications.
Throughout the pandemic, I helped helped entertainers (whose sole connection to audiences became virtual) upgrade their websites.
I've also written corporate and professional bios for high-asset realtors and re-written investor decks for startups.
My students come from a range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds--and regions. This past application season, I worked with students from Florida, Georgia, California, New York, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
Most of my students are high schoolers, but I also work with college students and second careerists applying to professional and graduate school.
Whether you need help writing a personal statement for college or grad school applications, or you require a letter for a professional board or co-op application, I can help. I also edit blogs and long-form essays, helping your voice resonate more deeply with your intended audience.
